sagely thoughts

its kinda funny how i live in a house chock full of chinese paintings but i've never stopped to fully appreciate a single one. As of ten minutes ago, i passed by one of five such paintings while on the way to pour myself a cuppa cold milk; i paused, attempted to read the fine calligraphy (there were roughly ten vertical lines of those stupid chicken scratches), and promptly gave up.

you can't fault me for this: as any of you who've seen a proper chinese painting will well know, the damned vertical words weren't written to be understood. it's akin to a doctor's handwriting - all you need to know is that you're sick, and the clinic stamp certifying this to be true is what really matters.

we all know that beauty lies in the eye of the beholder; we can therefore logically reason that since the words aren't legible even by your A1-in-higher-chinese friends, the meaning of the painting must be as the artist expects of you to... to... y'know, feel... when you first lay eyes upon it. get me so far?

it gets slightly embarassing to say this... but i think i've got a talent for it! the moment i had grasped this marvellous logic, i immediately found myself capable of understanding the chinese painting!

like, whoa.

talk is cheap. yes, you stupid seacrest-anon, you heard me right - talk is cheap. i shall now awe all of you with my newfound ability to decipher the mysterious messages behind normally obscure traditional chinese paintings... FEEL MY UNHOLY POWERS OF INTELLIGENCE, YOU MORTALS!
